Q. Your character of Kevin Tran has quickly become a favorite among Supernatural fans. Can we expect to see more combat between Kevin and Crowley’s demons?
A. I’m wondering that myself. I just read the latest script and I think the trend could go that way but I can’t say for sure. I’d be totally interested in it, but if it happened, it would have to make sense. The Winchester Brothers—those are the fighters. If they did a body swap episode and they swapped me with Dean, now that would be awesome.
Q. Tell me about your other projects in the works, like Fun Size.
A. Fun Size was a movie I did last we shot it in Cleveland, Ohio. It’s a Halloween comedy where a girl goes on an adventure with some friends in search of her little brother. We go on all sorts of crazy adventures. I can’t wait to see it. I’m also in The Man With the Iron Fists which I shot in Shanghai just before Fun Size. That was a whole other experience. Full of action scenes. Even though my character didn’t do any of the action scenes, I did get to train with some of the best fighters in the world which was a great experience. I also have the live action Halo 4 web series and that was a lot of fun. I’m a huge gamer.
Q. Have you had a good taste yet of what it’s like to join the Supernatural family fandom? Are there any Supernatural conventions in your future?
A. I’m a homebody for sure. I do a lot of work at home. I get messages from people from all over the world and I’m so happy to be a part of it. My first convention will be in Birmingham, England.
Q. What is it like filming Supernatural in your hometown of Vancouver?
A. I was born and raised in Vancouver. I moved to Beijing in 2010 just before the Olympics. Being an Asian Canadian actor, the amount of opportunity at the time was slim to none. I made the decision to go to China and it was one of the best decisions of my life.
Q. What was it like to say your lines in Mandarin while in China
A. I didn’t speak the language so every day I read a chapter of this daily conversational skills book that I had. I quickly figured it out because I had to. Within three months I found myself on a set reading Chinese lines, which I practiced so very hard on. It’s been three years since that experience and I’m much more confident in my Mandarin.
Q. I'm going to end with what's become my signature question. If you were a baseball player, what would your walk up song be? What song pumps you up and inspires you?
A. These are the better questions. I do like alternative rock and rap, but as far as inspirational, then I go full on orchestra. It fills up your entire being.
